Half Bone-In York Ham

Net Weight: 2.6kg min.

Product Code: YCHB

A much circulated rumour that the original York Hams were smoked with the wood from the ruins of the first York Minster (which burned down in 741) is certainly not true, indeed we are firmly of the opinion that a York Ham should not be smoked at all. [more...]

What is certain is that this most quintessential English ham is produced using curing methods that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. We carefully select the best legs of British Pork we can find, dress each with a pinch of saltpetre and then cover with a generous layer of salt. This process is repeated over a number of weeks before the hams are hung up in special drying rooms and left to mature for several months.

This time consuming process results in a beautiful ham with an unparalleled depth of flavour, and is the original source of our coveted Royal Warrant.

As a traditionally dry cured ham, the York is a little firmer textured and saltier than the Wiltshire, and should therefore be served sliced as thinly as possible.

Keep refrigerated between 0-5°C. Consume within 5 days of opening. Suitable for freezing

Too salty for us.. the quality is high, packaging not so friendly. Don’t like plastic bubbles.. good to recycle the aluminium casing if possible. Hence , second time around, we ordered three items to save the environment! High quality stuff, but York ham too salty ...

The best I've ever tasted. Even better than the Wilshire cure we usually buy. Dukeshill never fail to deliver on time and in perfect condition. If you're considering trying this product, go for it, you will not be dissapointed.

Excellent ham, as always. I come from Lincolnshire where many of my extended family were farmers and produced their own hams. I was very used to seeing large joints of home reared hams on the table and the York ham is the nearest I can come to that taste nowadays. Well done Dukeshill.

As ever, delicious. Slowly working our way through. Sandwiches, cold with salad, hot with baked potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Never disappointed. Will put any spare at the end of next week sliced in the freezer for future enjoyment.

We have been purchasing the York hams for a few years now. Dukeshill are always helpful when ordering, the goods arrive punctually and you can taste the quality. Just like the ones my grandfather had each Christmas when I was a child.
