I can trace my family tree back to the mid 1500s, where my illustrious forbear Thomas Hollingsworth could be found plying his trade as a pork butcher in Smithfield. Perhaps not the most exotic ancestor, but for me it provides a pleasing echo across the centuries and perhaps explains why I am now the sixth consecutive generation of my family to be engaged in the pursuit of producing fine food from the noble pig. It’s fair to say that ham curing is in my blood!
Having studied Food Science at University I joined the family meat business before branching out in 1997 and taking over the helm at Dukeshill from the founder (another relative!). I am very fortunate in having built a great team around me, which means that I can spend slightly more of my time indulging my other interests, most of which involve food! My readiness to eat almost anything (at least once!) horrifies some of my more squeamish colleagues and I love to travel, largely for the joy of seeking out new food experiences.
I joined the Dukeshill Team back in September 2008 to carry out a variety of duties within the Finance and Administration sections of the Business. My eagerness to get further involved with all other aspects of the business has seen me progress through the ranks including managing the Warehouse Department to my current role of Operations Manager.
I would describe myself as the cement between the bricks that holds everything together and the comfort blanket for many of my colleagues at times when they need a calm can do approach to resolving their own day to day challenges. I count myself very fortunate to work for such a brilliant company as Dukeshill with the connection to fantastic food being the icing on the cake.
Since joining Dukeshill Ham Company in October 2004 as the first full time member of staff, I have seen the company grow and grow. I now have a production team of 14 full time members all fully committed to producing the best quality products possible.
Over the period of time that I have worked of Dukeshill Ham Company I have been involved in the development and production of many new Items, it is Neale and Sarah’s constant enthusiasm and drive that makes the job such an interesting and challenging position. A better place to work would be hard to imagine.
